Our Purpose

We are a group of musicians from Michigan and Indiana who enjoy playing and entertaining with a variety of German, Austrian and Bavarian "Oktoberfest" style folk music! The band was begun as an offspring of John Fleming’s German Band ensemble at Allegheny College Band Camp for Adult Musicians in Pennsylvania in 2002.  Members enjoyed playing the folk music so much that Chris & John Griffith spearheaded an effort to continue playing the music together at home in West Michigan.  This small group gathered more musicians, members of community bands all over Michigan and Indiana, and we now have *membership of 60+

Practice and pleasure are our principal goals. Fun is the name of the game, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.  Rehearsals include a "beer break" and a "pot luck dinner" afterward.

* We typically play with 35-40 players.  Our preferred instrumentation consists of 1 piccolo, 2 flutes, 6-9 clarinets, 4 Eb alto horns, 2 flugelhorns, 4-6 trumpets, 4 euphoniums, 3 trombones, 4 tubas, and 3 percussionists.  Openings occur upon section need and availability.  If you are interested in joining our band, contact John Griffith at alphornjohn@yahoo.com.
